How to Manage items
In bulk, by Part Number (SKU) or
Individually, by Serial Number (UIC)

In the realm of modern asset management, organizations generally utilize one of two primary methodologies for supervising their inventory. The optimal choice between these strategies depends entirely on the level of granularity required for your operational oversight and the specific nature of the items being managed.

1. Bulk Inventory Management (SKU-Based)
Tracking in bulk is the standard approach for high-volume, interchangeable commodities. This method utilizes a Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) or a standardized Part Number to categorize groups of identical items. In this model, the system focuses on the collective total; it monitors how many units of a specific type are in stock, where they are located, and when they reach a reorder point. It is an efficient, streamlined solution for consumables or low-cost components where the history of a single, specific unit is less critical than the availability of the group.

2. Individual Item-Level Tracking (UIC-Based)
Conversely, Item-Level Tracking is the gold standard for high-value assets, regulated equipment, or items requiring rigorous maintenance schedules. This granular approach assigns a Unique Identification Code (UIC)—functioning much like a digital fingerprint or a serial number—to every single physical object. This allows for a comprehensive "cradle-to-grave" history of each specific asset, including its unique repair logs, individual chain of custody, and precise depreciation value. For law enforcement and municipal housing, this level of detail is often essential for compliance and accountability.

Strategic Insights in This Video
The following video demonstration provides a deep dive into these two distinct workflows. We will illustrate how our software seamlessly toggles between managing items individually by their Serial Numbers and managing them in bulk via Part Numbers and Quantities. By the end of this clip, you will have a clearer understanding of how to implement a hybrid approach that leverages the speed of bulk tracking with the absolute precision of individual UIC identification.
