Medical Supplies and Controlled Drugs
How to Manage Them
SageData is based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Paramedics and other medical professionals are required to keep track of
medical supplies, and particularly controlled drugs. For Paramedics there is also the
challenge of ensuring that the Ambulances are fully stocked with supplies, but also with
key equipment. And for managers there is the challenge of maintaining records, and
ensuring that proof of compliance with drug regulations is available (and fully
completed, and accurate)if required.
Previous processes took time, and were sometimes inaccurate. The application of two
specific technologies, barcodes and mobile units to read them, changes this. The
confirmation of controlled drugs (sometimes required at beginning and end of shift) can
be completed easily, quickly, accurately. An inventory check on a vehicle can also be
completed in a few minutes, complete with a record of when the check was done, and who
did it. Less time on administration. More time helping those that need help.
