Software for a small warehouse
SageData is based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Now you are in charge of a warehouse. Could be a new business, with the warehouse
growing fast from a small start. Could
be an older warehouse, that “old George” managed by remembering where everything is. But now it
is yours. And you have
to make sure that it is efficient: that you know what you have and where it is, and what needs
to be reordered, and to
make sure what goes missing.
If this is familiar, read on.
Software is the key to running an efficient warehouse. If the warehouse is new, or if it has been running without software, you have an opportunity to make everything better. But there are a lot of choices, and some room for error.
One of the key questions is how special are my requirements?
Although it may
seem that warehouse operations are all
the same “receive, put-away, pick and ship”, there are in fact many variations. So then the
choice is to take a standard
package, and adjust your operations to match the software, or to select a package and an
organization that can work the
way you want to work.
A standard package can be problematic, if it tightly controls the way you work. A custom package is problematic, as cost can be high, delivery can be late and function can be not quite what was understood. So the best compromise is a flexible package that can be adjusted to your needs.
SageData have been in this business for more than twenty years. Our software is used to track weapons, dangerous chemicals, security equipment for a G7, food to feed the fourteen thousand people, components for manufacturing aircraft, vaccines, PPE, toxic soil samples, and items removed from a Government building (tiles, paneling, electrics, plumbing and all). Each was based on a standard system. Each modified to meet the specific needs of the client.
And each used whatever technology was appropriate -
barcodes,
RFID, secure connections,
cloud
services, Mobile Data Collectors,
Wi-Fi, WAN and BLE.
If you are considering purchasing, or upgrading, produce a wish list of how you would like your
system to work, and

will fit your budget.
